1.Never change the water, just add some more when it evaporates 3 or 4 inches.
2.Before you add water, scoop some more out the tank to water your house plants.(Plants like fish water)
3.Don't use any live plants and put an algae eater or two in.
4.Don't use a bottom filter. Use a dual chamber filter that hangs on the back of the tank.
5.For gravel, use sand blasting gravel. Get it at Home Depot, it's cheap.
6.Put a 6 or 8 inch stone bubbler and put it under the sand.
7.When ya first fill your tank, use a treatment chemical from the fish store, it neutralizes the chlorine. Only need to treat the water one time, when you first fill the tank. When you add water that has evaporated there is no need to treat it.
8.To clean the sides, use one of those green Scotch pads and just clean the sides when you add water due to evaporation.
9.What that means is that you add some cold tap water ever two or three weeks and at the same time you clean the sides a bit and water your house plants....thats it.
10.The pictures in my gallery show my 35 gal tank and this process has been used for two years with no water changes or additives.
11.Don't clean the sandy bottom because it supports a bio system of bacteria that controls the ammonia etc.
12.I only use flake food.
13.It takes about a month and a half before the bio system starts working. You will know when it's working when you can disturb the sand and the water doesn't cloud up but rather you see small bits of solid matter kicked up but it settles after a short time and there is no cloudiness.
14.It takes me about ten minutes ever 3 or 4 weeks to add water, clean the sides and water my plants.

Woah, ya don't hear that every day either I was thinking,
"Little birddie pee pe poo, thats just crazy", I said.
"Hey I gotta go", Little birddie pee pe poo reported.
"What?", I said, "ya just got here"!

he said slamming the door behind himself.
